The Web Site as Virtual Property
In real estate parlance, the host of a web site could be said to be playing the role of the mortgage title company. They’re the ones who make it possible for the site to live on the internet. It’s almost like setting out the parameters for the property to be built. It’s up to the company or individual to build the site, although there are plenty of ways to contract other people to do that complicated work. It’s not uncommon, however, to find that the web site hosting company will also help to build and design the site, too, making it a business that has its hands in all areas related to web sites, from design to implementation.
The site’s domain name acts as the physical address. Like the address of a house, it is a direction for browsers to get directly to where they want to go. Interestingly, this connection between a domain and a physical house address was much more abstract just a few years ago. The culture at large has become accustomed to thinking about the world differently. Where once there were physical maps, now domains like mapquest and gps systems can give directions in moments. The generation growing up now is used to this as a matter of course, so the metaphor of real estate and domain names isn’t difficult to connect to. In fact, it’s become part of the way that humans perceive reality.
Emerging Artists at the Dallas Contemporary
To get a true feel of Dallas, Texas, travelers should experience not only its architecture and nightlife, but the work of its emerging artists. Fortunately, there’s a museum for that, where area artists may be seen for free. Dallas Contemporary originated in 1978 to provide a space designed to bring contemporary art to the forefront of Dallas culture.
Until the 8th of August, 2010, visitors will be able to see “Seedlings,” a show that brings together nine new artists built around a single theme, exploring how nature or natural systems have influenced human industry. The art work contained here asks various questions, such as how might bees teach people about modern aesthetics? The work considers how we merge with or destroy our natural surroundings, such as plant-life, mud, soil, algae, crystals, or flowers. The artists — Hilary Berseth, David Brooks, Jedediah Ceasar, Jessica Halonen, Hilary Harnischfeger, Christopher Ho, Virginia Poundstone, Gilad Ratman, and Lucy Raven — all invoke these themes, exploring how people can collaborate and how interconnected we are with nature.
If you come to Texas and stay overnight in a downtown hotel, Dallas Contemporary will offer a way to explore the city in a way you haven’t seen before. Future happenings will include the Legends 2010 Event, held on September 16th, which celebrates artists, arts patrons and arts professionals. Then, from September 16 to October 31, enjoy the work of the Legends Recipient Solo Exhibition, in which an annual artist is selected to be honored in a one-person show.

Rice and Beans in Miami?
While traveling around the world, and hearing about all the great places to go, some cities have reputations that are extraordinarily high. In Miami, they say, culture and cuisine are about as intriguing as they can be, and this is very much the case. Or so it seems, because there is nothing in the city that does not seem to belong there of its own accord, where the sense of things is like being part of some larger whole. Although it must be said, that it is sometimes more than a tad bit confounding to look at the parts on their own.
Seen in this light, then, the parts seem utterly mysterious, coming from other pieces of other puzzles, and it is near impossible to determine how to make them fit again into a logical unit. That is, perhaps, the maddening and gratifying thing about Miami, or even its foods, and certainly its hotels. Miami, USA is a place in the world where the world has no place, but yet it is every place, being a reflection of many worlds at once. Traveling the world and being in Miami proper, and eating such delectable things as rice and beans, the sounds of the sea do begin to make sense.
Suddenly hearing that this is known hereabouts as moros y cristianos , then pieces of the other puzzles start to emerge, and they lock together succinctly in the way that nothing else on earth might. Because in truth most recipes for this moros y cristianos are not at all the same, not in Puerto Rico, say, or even in Spain.
However, in Miami it is much the same as it is in Havana, and this alone is very telling. It is very much like language that travels out of context, it would take a great linguist to determine the relations between it and its homeland, and the rest of human folk to decide the how and why of how it got to where it did go. Laurel leaf is bay leaf, but yet it sounds so much more enticing in its Cuban version of Spanish that it also seems to taste better in the sun and near the sea. This is to say, in Miami.
Interesting and Mysterious Oregon
Oregon has some very interesting and mysterious things going on. The most mysterious place to visit in the state is The House of Mystery which lies on a piece of land that is considered a vortex. All sorts of strange things happen right in front of ones eyes that are unexplainable for most people. See bottles roll up hill or how people seem to just get shorter or taller depending on where they stand. It is near the town of Gold Hill and it has been entertaining travelers since the 1930s. This place is really fascinating but you may want to check into one of the best hotels in oregon to get some real rest. The accommodations here are a little rough.
If you find yourself in the Eastern part of the state check out the Wallowa Lake Tramway . This a great way to catch a view of the Eagle Cap Wilderness as you float up to the top of Mt. Howard on a tram. When visitors reach the top they are encouraged to take a walk or hike on some of the trails and see the plant life and other vegetation.
The Pendleton Underground Tours is anther interesting tour. The town of Pendleton has a whole tour of the underground town where the Chinese railroad laborers lived. There are underground businesses including the Hop Sing’s Chinese laundry and a card room used during the Prohibition years in the 1920s. This is another almost unbelievable live lived in the history of the state.
Then there is all of the interesting and fun activities going on along the Columbia River Gorge as it flows from the Eastern region to the Western region. On a windy day one can see many windsurfers and boats playing in the white tipped waves. There are plenty of ways to join in the fun with water sport companies to get you hooked up with a fun toy.
Raining and Pouring in Lisle
Lisle, Illinois is one of the loveliest places to visit, and it’s also a pretty nice place to live. It’s close enough to Chicago to take advantage of all the culture and night life, but still far enough away to maintain its own identity. Residents enjoy a very high quality of life, and for anyone who’s rich and single, it’s a suburban paradise.
The present is lovely indeed, making it very welcoming to visitors with its relaxed atmosphere, fun attractions, and a generous share of excellent hotels. Lisle also has a particularly interesting past, being founded as a town a little over 50 years ago. Some of the best legacies of the past, in fact, are reflected at the Morton Arboretum . This is a family-friendly place where people can go and see what’s growing in the area, with educational and research initiatives to help preserve the natural wonders of the area.
It was named after the same Morton who made Arbor Day a national holiday, and the family is one who’s presence is at nearly every kitchen table in the country. This is the same Morton that’s on the label in salt, and Morton Salt has been a leader in providing one of the most essential ingredients in cooking all over the world.
It’s headquartered in Chicago, where it’s found a home since 1910, and its big claim to fame has to do with the addition of another ingredient, magnesium carbonate. This helps the salt to flow, and anyone who’s used sea salt in a humid climate knows that salt tends to cake up when it gets particularly moist outside. When it rains, it is particularly susceptible to caking. So the raining and pouring on the label is a riff on an old proverb, but also tells the consumer about the very useful qualities that the magnesium carbonate offers.
Things to Know Before Turning Your Property Into a Rental
The poor real estate market has made it nearly impossible for many people to sell their homes. As a result, many people have decided to wait it out and, in the meantime, turn their homes into rentals. It may sound as easy as putting a “For Rent” sign in the yard; however, there are many things to consider and do before you take on any tenants.
The first thing that you want to do is share your ideas with a legal consultant. Tell them your plans and allow them to advise on you all of the important legal implications. It is important that you understand the landlord/tenant laws for your area as well as any potential zoning problems. A real estate attorney can even help you draft a lease agreement and application. If you are going to be living out of the area, you could even hire a company like Transglobe Property that specializes in the management of rental properties. You can visit their website at www.transglobe.com for more information on their services.
Once you have the legal side under control, you can begin to prepare the property. Make sure that everything — the house, the yard — is clean and ready to be presented to potential tenants. If you have anything of value that you don’t want damaged or stolen, remove it before you begin showing the house. With the house in order you can begin advertising the property in the newspaper and online .
Receiving those first applications can be very exciting; however, don’t get overly excited and think that you have to accept the first person that applies. It is important to do reference checks with their previous landlords as well as a credit check. Failure to do so could result in a damaging situation for both your property and your pocketbook.
Deciding to rent your home is a great option for many people who either can’t sell or want to make a little extra income. By going into the situation with an open mind and getting lots of advice, it can be an enjoyable situation for you and the tenant.
Kauai’s Waimea Canyon: The Grand Canyon of the Pacific
Considering a trip to the Hawaiian Islands? Here are a few facts before you go: The eight major islands and smaller islets and atolls stretch across a space of sea fifteen hundred miles long, from the island of Hawaii in the south, to the Kure Atoll in the northwest, which is connected to Green Island. Collectively, these islands form the fiftieth state of the United States, and among them, the island of Kauai, some 65 miles away from the island of Hawaii, is the oldest.
This “Garden Isle,” offering incredibly scenic waterfalls, deep valleys, and mountains, also contains some of Hawaii’s best hotels. Kauai was created by volcanic activity, its highest mountain, Kawaikini, rises to a level of 5,243 feet. Here, travelers will discover one of the wettest places on earth, where a high annual rain has carved out the land. On the west side, for instance, you’ll find the town of Waimea and the mouth of the Waimea River, whose waters formed Waimea Canyon. A part of the Waimea Canyon State Park , this tremendous rift in the earth’s surface is 3,000 feet deep and ten miles long, and also known as “the Grand Canyon of the Pacific.”
Lava flows in Kauai date back five million years, and approximately four million years ago, as the volcano on this island erupted continuously, a part of the island collapsed, in which a depression formed that was then filled by lava. Rain, pouring down the sides of Mount Waialeale eroded Waimea Canyon along one side of the collapse. Cliffs on the canyon’s west side are made of thin lava flows; on the opposite side, the cliffs are made from thicker lava flows that pooled in the depression. Over time, basalt, exposed to the air, changed from its original black color to a bright red, creating the incredible views.
Today, the park is comprised of 1,866 acres and is a great destination. It may be found by heading out of Waimea along Hawaii state road 550, about 18 miles distance, and heading into Kokee State Park.
Eureka Arts Alive
Gallery nights are a very popular way of making a city’s arts culture visible to a large, general public. They’re usually events that happen once a month, where the local galleries, and often local restaurants and other businesses, will agree to stay open for a few extra hours. The people of the city are able to see what’s happening in the visual arts scene, usually for free, and often there are free snacks and beverages for the curious potential patrons.
Eureka, the beautiful city north of San Francisco that boasts a ready gateway to the Redwood Forests, lovely coast and rivers, and a thriving cultural community, is reputed to have the highest per capita ratio of artists in any California city. It also has an excellent array of restaurants and hotels. Eureka has an awful lot to offer travelers, then, with a rich combination of culture and nature.
If you might expect that this is leading into talking about Eureka’s own gallery night, then you’d be correct! It’s called Arts Alive! , and it happens on the first Saturday of every month. Those who are wishing to get into the local arts scene here while they’re visiting may want to adjust their itineraries so that they can attend this wonderful event.
It’s totally free (unless you decide to buy some art, which is never a bad idea), and it happens from 6-9pm. The galleries in the city’s historic district are open and ready for crowds. If the city seems a little bit on the funky side, then this event will put it into the far reaches of funkiness. Art communities are always a breed apart, and the art scene in Eureka is no exception to this, and may even set new standards. There’s plenty of opportunity for sublime moments of people watching, as well as the chance to see art of all kinds, including random acts of music and performance.
