Affording What You Want
Even the most immaterialist of people have material things that want or desire; a more reliable car , new furniture for the living room or, my personal favorite, a new shotgun to add to the collection in the closet. Whatever it is, it is usually something that is a little too expensive to just go out and buy. Often they seem unobtainable and out of reach. However, they don’t have to be. There are a few simple ways to go about affording the things that you want.
One of the most popular ways to obtain those sought after items is through a cash advance or payday loan . These loans are very easy to get approval for, most do not require a credit check, and the funds are usually in your account on the same day. The ease and convenience of payday loans is a large part of what makes them so popular. When it comes to larger items, however, like cars they typically don’t work as well. Payday loans are intended for smaller amounts that can be paid back with the next paycheck. This is important to keep in mind if you are considering a payday loan.
A more traditional approach to getting what it is that you want is saving . Many people consider this slightly old-fashioned. One downside is that it will probably take you longer to save for it than you would like, but at least you don’t have to pay any interest. By taking the time to save for it, you will be able to pay for it in full without being indebted to anyone else.
Whichever route you choose, it is important to be patient. As the saying goes “Good things come to those who wait,” and affording the items you want is no different. Take the time to shop around for the best prices and keep an eye for specials and coupons. After all the longer you have to wait and the more you have to work for it, the more you will appreciate that item once you have it.
Home Fashion at Walmart
Fashion has always been a big priority for those who are inclined to be interested in it. Usually those with a little more disposable income than most of us right now. That is probably why in recent years there have been a number of people and places such as Target , and Martha Stewart who have tried to find ways to make home fashion something accessible to the rest of the people. However, with Target’s Global Bazaar closing down and Martha Stewart moving her stuff out of Kmart, it almost seems as if this may no longer be an option for those without a lot of disposable income. There is one thing happening in the world of home fashion that may encourage some of us or might just make you want to run away screaming. Walmart is putting out it’s own brand of home fashion on the cheap.
It’s not a perfect world, and most people who follow the colors for indoor decoration this season probably want nothing to do with this, but it does give some people some hope. While everyone knows that there is never going to be cutting edge fashion , as the people who are shopping for furniture at Walmart are some of the most conservative fashion wise as can be found out there, there is a chance that maybe some of the latest hot fashions will trickle down into the lower sub-conscious when they start listening to the fashion savvy and throw out those silly dividers made of pine with a red maple finish, and plain white cloth and instead give people the option of cheaper silvery metal frames and exotic Japanese prints .
Until something like that happens though, at least we still have experts who we know well and we know will listen to us when we want to try something new, without a lot of cost. That can be the biggest trick is knowing that it is ok to try out the newest colors and integrate them into a room without fear. Sometimes the best way to do that is with shades, which may be one of the most overlooked home fashion decorations.
Illinois 40 Years After
Illinois is a state that has an awful lot to offer visitors. There are many wild open areas that offer a glimpse into a rural past that shapes many daydreams about the continent, and saw the childhood of Abraham Lincoln. There’s also a fantastic sense of urban life, with Chicago, the third largest city in the country, offering all the metropolitan entertainments anyone could want, with its own share of historically important events and people. It’s very much alive right now, and is still one of the most attractive cities for young artists and thinkers to come and make a mark in world culture.
The mood might be different here than it was forty years ago, or it might be cycling around again to where it’s very much the same. It’s hard to tell, because the past few generations have had some difficulty defining their own cultural moment, and sometimes the best we can do is go retro. More young people have been able to enjoy a few more creature comforts than in the past, but that might be changing soon enough.
Right now, however, is a ripe time to enjoy the state from Illinois luxury hotels , and take in all the present and the past. Visitors to the Chicago area might occasionally be treated to a new concert by Sly and the Family Stone , who thankfully still play out, and their shows here have a remarkable poignancy.
It was just forty years ago – whether that’s ancient history or recent past is in the historical eyes of the beholder – that Sly and family were part of a much darker event. No one can be exactly sure what happened, or where things went south, but it accelerated quickly once it started.
They were to play a concert where thousands of revolutionary youth were gathered to hear the band that was in the process of changing their music from sunshine pop to something with a little more bite. Sly was and is famous for being late, and that was the case here. It may or may not have had an effect on how the crowd was getting edgy, but at some point it escalated, and the police lost control.
It is a different scene now, and we know enough not to repeat the mistakes of the past, hopefully, but we’re also looking for meaning, and right now the messiahs of the 60s are still some of the most hopeful voices around.

Cuisine of Northern Italy
Unlike most Italian restaurants in the United States , real Italian food has much more variety; a first-time traveler to Italy may be pleasantly surprised on finding such a variety of regional food. Dishes served in Northern Italy tend to make more uses of butter, corn and rice than pastas or tomatoes. That’s not to say pasta is non-existent or even rare in northern Italy but is does have to play second fiddle to polenta and amazing risotto. Many northern dishes reflect pride in the local country side and will include game or wild fowl in the main entree. On the coasts seafood and shellfish are the common fare as are carp and trout. As a general rule of Italian cusine , if it grows in that region you will, sooner or later, find it on your plate.
In Val d’Aosta, a region that produces Fontina cheese, specialties like Costoletta alla Valdostana, a veal chop covered in Fontina, and Capriolo alla Valdostana, a hearty venison stew made with wine, vegetables and grappa, are commonly served along side one of the many wines the region is known for. Piedmonte is home to two wild fungi that are prized the world over: white truffles and Porcini mushrooms. You’re also likely to get a chance to try regional boiled meat dishes like Vitello Tonnato, veal tongue, and ox tail. Friuli-Venezia Giulia, known for its vast cornfields, inspires a variety of polenta recipes. The coastal areas of this region, with their love of seafood, create an interesting blend of dishes; Boreto Graesano, a fish and white polenta soup. Most famous of all culinary wonders from Liguria is the basil Pesto sauce found there served with Trenette pasta. This region also has a sweet tooth producing recipes for sweet pizzas made with walnuts, chestnuts and candied fruit. These are only Northern Italy regional cuisine.
Long Life in Singapore
There is a lot of debate these days about the value of a good, balanced vegetarian diet. There are many claims that it is not healthy as we had previously thought, and there are also claims that it is in fact healthier. For anyone who is paying attention to this matter, it would seem that there is plenty of evidence to suggest that every day there are new revelations that show that vegetarianism is most certainly healthy, and very much likely to be healthier than a diet based in meat.
Here we can look at cultures in the east, where there are more religious proscriptions for vegetarianism that anywhere else. Like most religious proscriptions on consumption, they are based on health rather than a sacred value given to the food. But of course, there is that as well. Interestingly, many of these cultures come to a meeting ground in Singapore, and that might be why it has some of the best dining for vegetarians . The age and wisdom of the cultures inform the food today, to make for beautiful dishes that are extremely healthful.
It almost seems a shame that there are still those who claim that vegetarianism is a myth, or something that is only based on a passing fad. In truth, it is a practice that is thousands of years old.
Although there may still be plenty of debate about whether or not vegetarians live longer than the rest, there are also plenty of numbers to suggest that this is the case. The oldest people in the world are likely to be vegetarian. Although there are certainly other factors that go into their longevity than philosophies that respect life, these must ultimately play a role.
Lincoln’s Curtain Call in Washington, D.C.
Some historical sites are somber by the nature of the events commemorated. In the midst of downtown Washington, D.C., on a busy but less traveled 10th Street, NW, stands a red brick building. Ford’s Theatre has been through several refurbishings and remodelings, most recently reopening in February 2009. Perhaps surprisingly, it is operated by the National Park Service. Today it is an active theatre, as it has been since 1968.
Built in 1833 as a church, by April 14, 1865, this structure had morphed into a theatre. Five days earlier, General Lee had surrendered his army to the Union and, on this night, a relieved President Abraham Lincoln was relaxing in a balcony seat observing a performance. Surely you already know the story of the assassination by John Wilkes Booth and the ensuing course of history.
Interestingly, immediately after the assassination, Congress directed that the building never be used again for purposes of public entertainment. The structure served various government functions until the 1930s and was unused thereafter until Congress agreed to fund the restoration. What this National Historic Site offers you is the opportunity to transport yourself into the setting, to observe the building and the nearby Peterson House where President Lincoln died, and to see artifacts and interactive exhibits that enable you to vividly imagine the events of that evening. Many items related to that fatal night are on display.
With an ironic title, given the theatre’s history, the musical “Little Shop of Horrors” is set to open on March 12. Asia Nine is around the corner, ready and willing to serve hungry theatre patrons. Make sleeping arrangements through .
The emotional turmoil and events from that evening in April 1865 still affect us today. Visiting Ford’s Theatre is a moving experience well worth your time.
